It’s the hill of the boot, the region Puglia, touched by two seas. A beautiful land, the reign of the Trulli homes (traditional Apulian dry stone hut with a conical roof), UNESCO heritage. Then you have the historic ‘masserie’ (large farms) that are so characteristic of the countryside… I love this region and in fact this is where I spend my summer holidays in complete relaxation amongst art, beauty and good food.

So it’s not surprising then if I immediately accepted Simona Spinola’s invitation to participate to the Puglia edition of the Wedding Club organized by Zankyou in collaboration with Silvana Di Niso.

On September 28th I left Milan and I found myself in Savelletri, in the stunning San Nicola Masseria, where time seems to have stopped.

We smelled the perfumes of the land, saw the amazing ‘orecchiette’ (typical type of pasta of this region), took uncountable selfies and, most of all, we confronted ourselves with the following topics:

  • The first to speak was Loredana Capone, Council member of the region Puglia that explained how important it would be to team up to promote the identity heritage that characterizes each region of our beautiful Italy;

  • acknowledging how significant the wedding industry is in terms of cultural product, result of a unique mixture of food, beauty, art, culture, climate and nature;

  • the importance of training for the creation of a class of professionals in a spirit of fair competition that would elevate the level of competences and mark a significant difference between the real professionals and those that improvise this job;

  • the involvement of Institutions to create an effective network with official recognitions bound by regulations, pivoting on DSM (Destination Management System) as witness to tourism, funding to companies and market surveys;

  • a more extensive effort to internationalize the region to ensure this is not perceived by foreigners as a Destination Wedding location exclusively for VIP events that cost a fortune;

  • the opportunity to create clusters that would gather hospitality, tourism infrastructure, catering and transportation;

  • the effort of reinforcing the boundary between folklore and infrastructural failures.

Because at the end of the day, now more than ever, we need to believe in all of this; because, like someone once said, this Puglia is exploding in our hands and its uncontrollable wealth cannot be but a great opportunity for everyone. Nature has given us such incomparable beauty with its colors and its scents, now it’s up to us to promote it and make the world aware of its existence.

Thanks to Zankyou, to all those that have worked to prepare this event and to all those attending.
